Description
The Entombment, from Engraved copies of The Little Passion after Albrecht Dürer, presents a solemn scene of care and mourning. Figures carefully support Christ’s body beside the open tomb, while the gathered women watch with lowered heads and clasped hands. The rock face rises behind them, enclosing the group within a quiet, concentrated setting.
Fine engraved lines describe the weight of the drapery, the texture of the stone and the different expressions of grief. The central bearer’s broad back leads the eye toward Christ, while smaller details—vessels, cloth and the crown of thorns—reward a closer look. The composition gives a deeply human rhythm to the sacred narrative through the simple act of carrying and laying down a body.
