Description
Christ’s Entry into Jerusalem appears in this engraving after Albrecht Dürer from the Little Passion. Christ rides into a crowded gateway on a donkey while people press forward to greet him. A palm rises behind his radiant head, and a figure kneels low before the approaching animal. The closely packed faces and lively gestures make the entrance feel immediate, bringing public celebration into a narrow, bustling space.
The image translates Dürer’s narrative design into the finely worked lines of engraving. The city wall gives the procession a clear destination while the crowd gathers around its calm central figure. Closely spaced marks distinguish fabric, bodies and the surrounding setting, keeping the story vivid at a small scale. This later interpretation preserves the direct emotional appeal of the composition while remaining a work after Dürer.
