Description
Figures carry large vessels and other objects through Festival Procession, a drawing after Polidoro da Caravaggio. A seated woman and infant at the foreground left introduce a quieter grouping beside the more active bodies beyond. Brown wash connects the gathering into a broad arrangement, letting varied gestures and carried forms give the scene its dense, collective movement.
Pen and brown ink establish the drawing’s contours, while brushed wash gives the forms a changing weight. The work follows Polidoro’s design rather than claiming his own hand, preserving a composition through another maker’s interpretation. Its appeal lies in the translation of a collective event into marks that can be followed across the sheet. A procession becomes not only a subject but also a visual rhythm, asking the viewer to look at how individual figures contribute to the whole.
