Description
Vincent van Gogh’s Haystacks in Provence places the warm abundance of the harvest close to the viewer. Rounded stacks rise from a field of gold, their textured surfaces built from lively strokes of yellow, orange, and green. Farm buildings and a bright sky extend the setting beyond the foreground, giving the scene both depth and openness.
Painted near Arles in 1888, the work belongs to Van Gogh’s sustained interest in rural labor and the changing seasons. Its energetic brushwork makes the gathered wheat feel responsive to the summer light. The humble harvest becomes an expansive celebration of color, texture, and the land.
