About Low Tide at Pourville, near Dieppe
Claude Monet’s Low Tide at Pourville, near Dieppe (1882) looks across blue water toward the cliffs of Normandy. Pale peach and yellow rock faces rise beneath green grass, and their colors reappear in broken reflections below. Small dark figures along the shore give a sense of scale to the broad coastal view. Monet painted the fishing village during his stay there in the spring of 1882, drawn to its beach and surrounding landscape. The original belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
