Description
Nothing Is Known of This shows two figures carrying a body beside the pointed doorway of a church while monks occupy the nearby space. The title withholds certainty even as the action remains physically direct. Goya brings the effort of handling a body into relation with a sacred setting, allowing ritual and human need to share an uneasy encounter.
The drawing from the Witches and Old Women Album uses black and gray washes with worked alterations. The figures’ task gives the scene weight, while the title keeps its larger circumstances unresolved. Its force lies in that contrast between a visible action and an unavailable explanation, asking the viewer to attend to what people do without assuming that the setting supplies a complete account of why.
