Description
Old Man with Beard, Fur Cap, and Velvet Cloak is an etching by Rembrandt van Rijn, dated about 1631. The fur cap and broad cloak frame an older man’s face and long beard; closely spaced etched lines bring the heavy garment into deep shadow.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art identifies this impression as the third state, accession 66.521.69. The paper’s aged tone and small marks remain visible around the figure, distinguishing this impression of Old Man with Beard, Fur Cap, and Velvet Cloak from other examples.
