Description
In Nude with Clasped Hands, Pablo Picasso places a woman close to the front of a pale ochre setting. Her reddish hair and softly pink body form a restrained contrast with the surrounding ground, while the hands gathered before her give the upright pose a firm center. With little scenery to distract, the figure’s simple bearing becomes the picture’s main event.
Made in Gósol in 1906, the work gives the body a substantial but approachable presence. Broad areas of color and simplified contours establish its weight without a profusion of detail. The clasped hands keep the pose composed, and the quiet background allows the face and torso to remain closely connected. Picasso finds expressive force in this economy, making an ordinary standing figure feel both immediate and thoughtfully constructed.
