Description
Pablo Picasso’s Nude with a Towel presents a woman holding pale fabric before her body. The head is simplified into a masklike arrangement of curves and angles, while blue contours define the shoulders, arms, and torso. Red-brown and blue areas behind her intensify the warm color of the figure.
The towel introduces a contrasting light shape and a sequence of folds beneath the hands. Picasso gives the body solidity through broad planes, allowing its outline to carry much of the expression. Figure, fabric, and background become closely related parts of a deliberately compact composition.
