Description
The agility and audacity of Juanito Apiñani by Francisco de Goya catches a daring leap above a charging bull. The vaulter’s body swings around a slender pole, suspended over the animal’s lowered head as spectators crowd the barrier behind him.
Long horizontal lines give the arena a sense of open space, making the airborne figure’s diagonal movement all the more striking. The bull’s powerful forward rush and the acrobat’s precarious balance hold the scene at a moment of maximum tension.
