Description
Tauromaquia Plate 8 by Francisco Goya brings a dramatic encounter into focus. A bull catches a man amid a tightly gathered group, while a figure in the foreground reaches outward with a banderilla. Overlapping bodies and flying cloth concentrate the action toward the left, leaving an expanse of shaded ground on the right. That imbalance gives the encounter an unsettling immediacy, as if order has suddenly broken apart.
Created by Francisco Goya in 1816 for La Tauromaquia, this scene depicts a Moor caught by the bull in the ring. Fine etched contours and burnished aquatint distinguish the figures without softening the confusion of their movement. The image captures the instant when a controlled spectacle becomes unpredictable.
