Description
Poor Folly by Francisco Goya turns a moment at a threshold into an uncanny encounter. A two-headed woman stands with her arms outstretched, looking toward two men behind her. The unusual figure creates an immediate sense of divided attention, leaving the viewer suspended between recognition and mystery.
Created around 1815–19 for Disparates, the artwork was first published in 1864. Its imagery has been associated with Spain looking both backward and forward after the Peninsular Wars, a reading that adds another layer to its atmosphere of uncertainty. Whether approached through that historical connection or simply through its strange theatrical presence, the work offers a compelling invitation to linger and look again.
