About Poplars (Wind Effect)
Claude Monet’s Poplars (Wind Effect) (1891) makes the movement of foliage central to a riverside landscape. Three tall trees dominate the foreground, their irregular trunks and wind-stirred leaves leading upward through a softly painted sky. Behind them, a curving row of smaller poplars draws the eye into the distance. The long vertical composition balances the trees’ height with the flowing rhythm of the bank. The original, titled Effet de vent, série des peupliers, belongs to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
