About Red Boats at Argenteuil
Claude Monet’s Red Boats at Argenteuil (1875) gives a quiet anchorage a lively center of color. Vermilion hulls stand out against the blue-gray river, while tall masts rise through a softly clouded sky. Broken reflections and touches of green keep the water active beneath the still boats. Argenteuil’s boating scene offered Monet a setting where leisure, river light and modern life met. The original, also titled Argenteuil, belongs to the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris.
