Description
Camille Pissarro’s Red Roofs, Corner of a Village, Winter looks through bare orchard branches toward clustered houses. Warm roof tiles and pale walls stand against green-brown ground, while trees interrupt the view with a fine network of dark lines.
Painted in 1877, the scene finds structure in the relationship between buildings and vegetation. The branches draw the viewer close, while the houses remain partly screened beyond them. Pissarro balances warm and cool color to give the winter landscape a full, quietly inhabited character.
