Description
Solway Moss opens onto a broad, watery landscape where cattle and low ground lie beneath a dramatic sky. The dark foreground and luminous distance create the atmospheric depth that makes Turner’s landscape art so compelling.
Turner designed and etched this plate for Liber Studiorum, and Thomas Goff Lupton engraved its mezzotint tones. Published on January 1, 1816, it joins delicate etched outlines to velvety darkness, allowing light and weather to carry the scene’s quiet drama.
