Description
The Arms of Ferdinand I presents a large heraldic shield beneath an elaborate crown. Lions, bands and smaller emblems divide the shield into carefully ordered fields, while a surrounding chain and pendant add another layer of ceremonial detail. Lettering below connects the ornament with the printed page, giving the composition the character of a formal title image.
Albrecht Dürer’s woodcut balances a strong symmetrical outline with intricate work inside it. The crown’s small ornaments contrast with the broader areas of the shield, and the chain carries the eye around the design. The image makes authority visible through a structured gathering of symbols, inviting a close look at the decorative precision of its heraldic language.
