Description
The Babylonian Whore shows a richly dressed woman holding an ornate cup as she rides a many-headed beast before a crowd. Beyond the foreground, a city burns while further figures appear among the clouds. The scene combines courtly display with threatening animal forms, creating a vision whose attraction and danger remain closely intertwined.
This facsimile of Albrecht Dürer’s woodcut builds the episode from Revelation through contrasts of scale, texture and attention. The woman’s costume and elaborate vessel invite close inspection, while the beast’s heads draw the eye into a restless cluster below. People, buildings and heavenly figures extend the narrative in several directions. The dense composition rewards repeated looking, allowing the splendid central figure to remain compelling even as the surrounding world signals catastrophe.
