Description
The Crucifixion gathers a small group of mourners below Christ on the cross, with Saint John and the Virgin close to the central beam. A skull lies at its foot, while further figures remain partly visible behind the foreground robes. The narrow setting brings the outstretched body and the different expressions of grief into an intimate arrangement.
This reversed engraving after Albrecht Dürer’s Passion design concentrates the Crucifixion through hands, faces and carefully folded cloth. The mourners’ gestures answer the raised arms above them, linking the scene vertically while preserving their individual responses. Fine lines build depth in the surrounding shadows and texture in the fabric. The image’s emotional clarity comes from this close gathering, where shared sorrow is conveyed through a few attentive bodies rather than a broad spectacle.
