Description
In The Fourth Knot, a round medallion containing a monogram rests at the center of an elaborate circular knot. Pale strands weave across a dark ground, forming repeated loops and crossings before extending into four ornamental corners. The overall shape is immediately clear, yet its individual paths invite a slower, more searching kind of attention.
Albrecht Dürer’s woodcut follows an ornamental design associated with Leonardo da Vinci. The interlacing lines create a lively tension between visual order and apparent complexity: each repeated unit belongs to a larger balanced arrangement, while each strand seems to offer another route through it. The small center provides a still point within the surrounding movement, making the image compelling both as a decorative whole and as an intricate structure to explore.
