About The Harvesters
Painted in 1565, Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s The Harvesters brings together the work and rest of a summer wheat harvest. Laborers cut and gather wheat while others share a meal or rest beneath a tree. Part of a six-painting cycle of the seasons, the scene combines a broad landscape with closely observed details of rural life. The original painting belongs to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
