Description
In The Potato Peeler, a seated woman bends over her work, her white cap and hands emerging from a subdued interior. Van Gogh gives the ordinary task a concentrated gravity through dark clothing and earthy color.
The close arrangement keeps attention on the woman’s posture and the small action in her lap. The full museum title identifies a self-portrait on the reverse; the image shown here is the potato-peeling scene. The work is by Vincent van Gogh.
