Description
The Windmill by Rembrandt anchors a wide landscape with the angled sails and weathered structure of a mill. Fine etched lines describe the building, adjoining cottages and low ground, while the broad sky gives the scene a quiet sense of space.
Dated 1641, the etching combines careful architectural observation with an open, atmospheric distance. Dense detail at the left gradually yields to lighter marks across the landscape, guiding the eye toward the horizon.
