Description
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec raises a lightly drawn profile toward the right in Soularde. An open mouth and long neck give the small head an expressive direction, while only a few facial marks interrupt the pale surroundings. The economy makes each line significant, allowing the figure’s presence to emerge through suggestion rather than a densely modeled likeness.
Dated 1898, the lithograph uses a beige tint stone on laid paper and belongs to the Yvette Guilbert portfolio. The numbered design has its own identity within a sequence associated with the performer, without needing to stand for the complete album. Toulouse-Lautrec lets a limited arrangement of marks carry a human expression, giving the page a delicate but active focus. The print invites close looking at how little is required for a profile to seem alive.
