Description
In Your Mouth, green lines bring heads and bodies into a diagonal embrace against a pale, spacious ground. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec gives Your Mouth an intimate visual counterpart, concentrating attention on the figures together rather than an elaborate setting. The spare graphic arrangement allows their meeting to carry the scene, while the title connects the encounter with the song for which the image was made.
The 1893 lithograph is printed in olive-green ink on Japan paper. The single color brings the figures into a shared graphic rhythm, while the generous unmarked ground keeps their proximity distinct. As an image for Les Vieilles Histoires, it connects drawing with song, yet the embracing forms also sustain attention on their own through the economy of their line and placement.
