Description
Bouquet in a Chinese Vase by Odilon Redon sets a colorful arrangement of flowers against a warm red background. Yellow, white and red blooms emerge from a pale decorated vessel, with fine stems and small accents of blue creating an airy upper edge. The oil painting dates to around 1912–14.
The rounded vase anchors the composition while the flowers spread freely above it. Redon’s varied marks suggest petals and leaves without giving every form a rigid outline, allowing the bouquet to hover between observation and imagination. Warm background color and cooler details in the vessel create a rich but intimate floral still life.
