Description
The Expulsion from Paradise appears in this engraving after Albrecht Dürer from the Little Passion. A winged angel drives Adam and Eve away with a raised sword. Adam turns back toward the angel while Eve moves forward beside him, bringing uncertainty and motion to the paired figures. The surrounding trees recall the garden they are leaving, and the sword cuts forcefully across the upper part of the composition.
The image translates Dürer’s narrative design into the finely worked lines of engraving. The angel’s sweeping feathers and robes contrast with the exposed bodies of the departing couple. Closely spaced marks distinguish fabric, bodies and the surrounding setting, keeping the story vivid at a small scale. This later interpretation preserves the direct emotional appeal of the composition while remaining a work after Dürer.
