Description
Dancers Practicing at the Barre by Edgar Degas places two pale figures against a warm, softly brushed wall. Each rests a raised leg on the barre, their skirts spreading into light, airy shapes. One dancer turns her face toward the room, while the other is seen from behind with a bright yellow bow.
The barre and long floorboards lead the eye diagonally through the studio. A small watering can sits at the lower left, a quiet everyday detail within the rehearsal space. The broad stretch of empty floor gives the figures room, making their balanced poses and cast shadows especially clear.
