Description
The Rehearsal of the Ballet Onstage by Edgar Degas offers a view across a stage filled with dancers at different moments of preparation. Pale skirts catch the light against dark scenery, while a musician and the curve of an instrument anchor the foreground.
The broad floor opens toward two seated observers at the right, creating a contrast with the crowded cluster of dancers on the left. Raised arms, turned heads, and a resting pose give the scene an unhurried rhythm. Degas makes rehearsal itself compelling, with each figure contributing to the movement of the whole.
