Description
Two Men by Edgar Degas places a pair of standing figures in a subdued interior. The man at the left turns toward his companion, while the figure at the right stands before a framed picture with one hand near his waist.
Deep browns, grays, and blacks make small areas of light especially telling: a white collar, the edge of a face, and the soft sheen of a coat. The restrained setting and differing gazes give Two Men a quiet, conversational tension without spelling out the relationship between them.
