Description
Edgar Degas’s Dance Class at the Opera opens into a high room where dancers practice or wait near an instructor. Pale skirts and extended arms punctuate the warm walls and wooden floor. A chair in the foreground adds an informal, everyday detail.
The dancers’ differing poses give the room a loose, varied rhythm. Some figures engage in movement while others pause at the edge, making practice feel ongoing rather than staged. Degas uses the open floor and receding architecture to connect the scattered group.
