Description

In Linger Longer Loo, Yvette Guilbert faces forward with a laughing expression, her long black-gloved arms spread across the upper chest. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec gives Linger Longer Loo an animated close portrayal rather than an expansive stage scene. The broad arrangement of hands and arms makes her performance visible through a few emphatic features, allowing the surrounding open ground to sharpen their graphic effect.

The 1898 lithograph uses a beige tint stone on vellum. Dark gloves give the spread arms a broad graphic rhythm, framing the laughing face and connecting expression with movement. Toulouse-Lautrec holds these emphatic features close to the viewer, letting the performer’s animation occupy the page without needing an extensive theatrical setting. The song’s title accompanies a portrayal energized by the figure herself.
