Description

Portrait of a Young Venetian Woman by Albrecht Dürer sets a thoughtful face against a softly colored blue background. A deep red head covering and carefully described necklace frame the sitter, while her slight turn gives the small portrait a gentle sense of movement. The rich clothing remains subordinate to the quiet attention concentrated in her expression.

Dating from about 1506, the work belongs to Dürer’s second visit to Venice. Fine detail and softly modeled features bring Northern precision into dialogue with the warmth of Venetian portraiture. The sitter’s identity remains unknown, leaving the image’s individual presence to speak for itself.
