Description
Animal Folly by Francisco Goya places a large elephant opposite a small group of men. The animal’s curled trunk, watchful eye and heavily modeled body command the scene, while the clustered figures offer a curious counterpoint at the left.
Dense lines and a stark passage of light heighten the contrast between the elephant’s scale and the men’s gestures. Within the Disparates, this strange meeting retains an air of mystery, balancing close observation with the logic of a dream.
