Description
About Bathers at Asnières
Painted in 1884, Georges Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières shows men and boys resting beside the Seine outside Paris. The still figures and sunlit riverbank contrast with bridges and factory chimneys in the distance. Seurat planned the composition through preparatory drawings and oil sketches, creating a carefully ordered scene of modern life. The original painting belongs to the National Gallery in London.
