About Study for Bathers at Asnières
Created around 1883–84, Georges Seurat’s Study for Bathers at Asnières is a preparatory oil sketch for his larger riverbank scene. The study explores the setting beside the Seine near Paris, combining bright outdoor color with clearly structured forms. It offers a glimpse of Seurat’s planning process before the finished composition. The original study, painted on a wood panel, belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
