Description
Christ Asleep during the Tempest by Eugène Delacroix places a small, crowded boat amid restless blue-green waves. The figures strain, reach and turn toward one another beneath a heavy sky, while Christ rests at the left. His stillness creates a striking contrast with the urgent gestures around him.
Red garments flash against the dark water, drawing the eye through the tightly woven group. The boat’s diagonal position and the broken rhythm of the waves intensify the sense of instability. In Christ Asleep during the Tempest, Delacroix makes the tension between fear and trust visible through movement, color and the calm of the sleeping figure.
