Description
Women toss figures in a blanket in Feminine Folly, turning a recognizable group action into a strange and unstable spectacle. The lifted bodies depend on the movement of those holding the cloth, making the gathering a study of force, balance and human interdependence. Goya allows the scene to remain both playful and unsettling, without reducing it to a single clear explanation.
The design belongs to the Disparates, where ordinary actions can take on the unpredictable character of dreams. Etching and aquatint create a printed world in which figures emerge from broad tonal areas, lending the encounter an immediacy beyond its uncertain meaning. The image’s fascination lies in that combination of familiar physical activity and an atmosphere that makes the familiar suddenly difficult to trust.
