Description
Frieze with Three Horsemen, after Polidoro da Caravaggio, gives riders and horses the measured movement of a classical procession. Pen lines and brown and gray washes emphasize the interplay of bodies, gestures and overlapping forms.
Dating to the 1530s, the drawing copies a passage from Polidoro’s painted façade for the Casa Boniauguri in Rome. It preserves part of a lost composition inspired by ancient reliefs and the legendary history of Rome.
