Description
Jean-François Millet’s Harvesters Resting gathers workers beside piled grain in a broad, sunlit field. Seated figures share food or conversation, while a standing man addresses a woman at the left. Warm earth and straw connect the group with the surrounding harvest.
Painted in 1850–1853, the scene draws on the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. Millet gives that subject the familiar scale of rural labor and a midday pause. The varied postures make the gathering feel both communal and quietly individual.
