Description

In the Meadow brings two young women into the shelter of a sunlit landscape. Pierre-Auguste Renoir sets their pink and white dresses against greens and blues, letting the curves of their figures echo the surrounding trees and grasses.

Seen largely from behind, the companions look out across the open ground. A small cluster of flowers and a pale hat lend the scene an intimate, unhurried character, while soft brushwork allows figures and foliage to share the same shimmering light.
