Description
Joseph’s Coat Brought to Jacob is an etching and drypoint by Rembrandt van Rijn, dated about 1633. The biblical scene gathers several figures around a seated Jacob as news of his son is brought to him. Rembrandt places their urgent gestures against the shadow of an open doorway, drawing the eye to the exchange at the center.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art identifies this impression as the first of two states. Uneven paper tone and small age spots remain visible in this particular impression of Joseph’s Coat Brought to Jacob, while the figures and fine etched lines remain clear.
