Description
A woman in a hat gives Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s La Revue Blanche poster its principal human presence. Her face appears toward the upper left beside a feathery collar, while the long dark skirt angles downward to the right. Lettering occupies the upper right, balancing the figure’s direction with the publication’s name within one broadly organized design.
Dated 1895, the lithograph was printed in four colors on machine-wove paper. Toulouse-Lautrec gives the publication a pictorial presence that can remain engaging independently of its original practical use. The image joins artistic invention with the task of announcement, allowing the represented subject to carry a broader cultural association. The print preserves that meeting of image and title, where a design can be both a moment of looking and a point of entry into a publication.
