Description
Giotto’s Last Judgement organizes a vast sacred gathering around Christ within a radiant central enclosure. Angels and ordered groups occupy the upper and left portions, while darker, crowded forms fill the lower right. Repeated figures and bands of color give the wall a clear structure.
The fresco contrasts harmony and disorder through the arrangement of bodies. Christ remains the still center from which the larger scene unfolds, while changes in spacing and movement make its divisions legible. Giotto combines monumental scale with closely observed human gestures.
