Description
Man in a Cloak and Fur Cap is an etching by Rembrandt van Rijn from around 1630, formally titled Man in a Cloak and Fur Cap, Leaning against a Bank. A solitary figure leans at an angle, wrapped in a heavy cloak and topped by a fur cap, while the bank beside him is suggested with loose, dark strokes.
The figure’s weight and relaxed stance give the print a strong sense of physical presence despite its small scale. Rembrandt uses selective hatching and open paper to balance shadow with a direct, quickly observed character study.
