Description
Pembury Mill, Kent brings together working buildings, a waterwheel and small figures in a richly detailed rural setting. Designed and etched by J. M. W. Turner for Liber Studiorum, the scene balances solid architecture with the loose rhythms of foliage and uneven ground.
Published on June 10, 1808, this plate belongs to Turner’s sustained exploration of landscape through printmaking. Fine linear marks describe the mill and surrounding vegetation, inviting a slow look at the everyday activity woven into the setting.
