Description
Vincent van Gogh’s Rest from Work, after Millet, shows two workers lying in the shade of a haystack. Their blue clothing stretches across the foreground, while golden fields, a cart, and animals remain in the sun beyond. Shoes and harvesting tools rest nearby, completing the picture of a pause during agricultural labor.
Van Gogh adapted a composition by Jean-François Millet, giving it his own vivid color relationships. Cool blue figures meet warm yellow and orange surroundings, making the shade feel tangible. The relaxed poses remain central, but the active brushwork gives the resting scene a bright, energetic surface.
