Description
Claude Monet’s Rouen Cathedral brings the stone façade close to the viewer, its portal and carved surfaces seen through warm red-orange light. Cooler violet and blue passages gather in the shadows. Architectural details remain visible, but their edges soften within the layered color.
Monet repeatedly painted the cathedral as its appearance changed with light and weather. This view makes the building feel both massive and atmospheric. The deep entrance creates a dark center, while the surrounding stone seems to absorb and reflect the color of the air.
