Description
Saint Veronica between Saints Peter and Paul presents three monumental figures in a closely balanced devotional scene. Veronica holds the cloth bearing Christ’s face, while Peter’s key and Paul’s sword identify the saints at either side. Their pale halos stand out against the dark background, drawing attention to the faces and the sacred image at the center.
This woodcut copy from The Little Passion is by Johannes Mommaert after Albrecht Dürer. Strong contours and closely spaced lines give the robes a sculptural weight, while the repeated curves of the cloth and garments unite the group. The frontal arrangement creates a sense of stillness and direct encounter, inviting the viewer to linger over its concentrated symbolism.
