Description
In Sleepless Night, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec places a seated man in profile within dense darkness. He faces left toward a paler opening near a balcony or window, making the contrast between figure and space central to the scene. The restricted view concentrates on one wakeful presence, giving a quiet nocturnal interval a strong graphic weight.
Dated 1893, the print combines brush and spatter lithography with scraper, using black ink on wove paper. Jean Goudezki is credited as author and Edouard Kleinmann as publisher, while Toulouse-Lautrec created the image. That relationship places the design within a project of text and pictures without erasing its separate pictorial identity. The print preserves one nocturnal subject, allowing a passing condition of daily life to become a lasting graphic encounter.
